How to Identify an E-Bike

Knowing how many people ride e-bikes between Centennial and Main is important because it will help us understand if this new technology plays an important role in getting people to bike between these two sites. (Perhaps the power of an ebike gives people the push they need to get up the hills between the two campus sites.). There is no foolproof means of identifying an ebike (so we just have to do our best). But there are some clues. If we see a battery, that is the best way of identifying an ebike. The battery can be in several places.

  1. On the back of the bike.

2. Often the battery will be integrated into the down-tube, the tube that extends from the handle bars to the pedal. This can be seen either by an extra component in that spot or an extra wide down tube. If the tube connecting the handle bars and the pedal is thicker than the other tubes on the bike, then it is probably an ebike.

3. Some brands are always ebikes. One of the most common around here is Aventon.
