Welcome to the Advanced Topics in Quantitative Genetics and Breeding Course (FOR-CS-ANS 726) Website!
Why this course?
Quantitative genetics has gained popularity in plant and animal breeding programs during the last decade due to advancements in DNA sequencing technologies, genotyping platforms, and increased computer power. Agricultural companies seek graduate students skilled with analytical abilities. Although NCSU offers courses on quantitative genetics relevant to breeding, low enrollment has led to these courses being inconsistently offered or not offered at all. As a result, some plant and animal breeding students graduate without essential training. To address this issue, a combined effort across departments at NCSU was proposed: a critical mass of graduate students would enable the offering of the course regularly while fostering interactions among faculty members and graduate students campus-wide, encouraging the exchange of diverse plant and animal breeding perspectives.
